Richard Carnell Baker, Esq.
Richard Carnell (“Rick”) Baker, Esq., is a 1980 graduate of Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory, in San Francisco, CA, where he received his varsity letters in track and football, and a High School Diploma in 1980. He also wrote for and was a feature editor of Sacred Heart’s newspaper.
In 1984, Rick graduated from The American University in Washington, D.C. (“AU”), with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, and a minor in Philosophy. He commenced law school at AU’s Washington College of Law (the “WCL”) in the fall of 1984. In 1987, Rick graduated from law school, distinguishing himself as a competitive oral advocate, and having won several awards for representing WCL in interscholastic moot court competitions in New York City and Philadelphia, PA.
From August 1987-1992, Rick practiced corporate and commercial litigation and served in the business department of the then 300 lawyer firm of McGuireWoods, LLP, in its Washington D.C. and McLean, VA, Offices.
In late 1992, Rick established a civil/criminal litigation and transactional boutique law firm, now known as Baker Simmons, Attorneys at Law, located in Washington, D.C., one (1) block from Black Lives Matter Plaza. He is currently the Managing Partner of the law firm, which practices in the courts of D.C., Maryland and Virginia, a member of the District of Columbia and Virginia Bars, and a permanent member of the prestigious Judicial Conference of the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. His firm particularly emphasizes representation of federal sector employees suffering discrimination, retaliation, adverse action, or wrongful removal in the workplace, and other individuals experiencing disputes involving complex divorce, real property, child custody, business/partnership, serious personal injury or professional liability.
